Sweet potato cultivation has been booming in Andalusia in recent years, and more specifically in the province of Cádiz and Seville. This increase in the production area is explained mainly by the increase in the demand for the export market – especially France, UK and Germany – but there is also a developing internal market.
The sweet potato planting date depends on the location and the variety, but it is usually done between the months of April to June. The harvesting campaign in Andalusia typically begins in August and lasts through until November.
The Mediterrean climate combined with suitable soil types and a mature agricultural sector are the main factors promoting the increasingly important sweet potato presence in Andalucia .
