Asociafruit’s carrot production and export sector represents around 60% of Andalusian exports of this crop. It is grown primarily in the province of Cadiz, although there is also some production in the province of Seville.

The best conditions for optimum development of this crop – mild climate and rich soil – are to be found on the North-western coast of Cadiz.

Carrots are packaged for marketing in one of two ways, corresponding to the two farming regimes in the area: carrots sold loose or without leaves are planted in December and harvested from March to June while bunched carrots, as they are traditionally known in the area, are sowed in August and harvested from November to June.

Most of the production for both seasons is exported to European countries, mainly France, Belgium and Holland, to cover their spring market needs.
