For the Andalusia-Extremadure region, the export boom in this sector began began in the early nineties, when a new niche was clearly identified on potato markets in Northern European countries, two months prior to their own harvest. The season runs from 15 April to 15 June.

Since that time, a wide range of new varieties has been developed to adapt to the needs of the different markets, covering the interval between the extra-early Northern African potato season and the harvest in Germany, Holland, England or France – the area’s major customers today.

Asociafruit potato sector companies farm in the provinces of Seville, Cordoba, Cadiz and Huelva, where they control over 12,000 ha of red and sandy soil devoted to this crop.
